Goodbye till tomorrow

With finals looming around the corner and me being not the most organized person I'm temporarily getting rid of things that take up time.  Like facebook and my blog.  After finals, there should be a lot more posts coming soon.  Mostly due to the fact the my beautiful sister, Kennedy  is marrying Kyle!  She is in the process of putting together  a gorgeous DIY wedding, so I should have projects galore to share.
Wish me luck!

Pig Pancakes :)

My dad made me a pig pancake a while ago and it made my day.  All you do is make a big pancake with 2 smaller ones attached for the ears.  Cook a more oblong circle to the side.  Cut to small slits in the oblong circle and place on top.
Enjoy :)

Anise Seed Cookies

These are a family favorite that I think are a mix between a traditional Italian easter cookie, spanish cookie, and Moroccan cookie.  I grew up thinking were super hard to make, but started making them all of the time now that I'm at college.
I know you may be thinking what is Anise Seed? Anise Seed looks like this and tastes similarly to a fennel seed, but has a subtle black licorice flavor (for all of you that didn't grow up on black licorice, don't be turned off by that description).  They can be pretty expensive, but I've found that they sell them at Macey's Grocery store in a little packet for like $.69.
I researched Anise seed and found that it is used basically everywhere, except the United States.  It is believed to relieve menstrual cramps, help with digestion, and a cure for insomnia.   In India, they just chew the seeds after dinner and in the middle east they put about a tablespoon of them in hot water and drink it as tea.   Basically, it's an incredible herb.

Anise Seed Cookies:
3/4 cup water
1 pkg of Anise seeds (julia's seasonings) or 3 tbs.
3 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1 orange
1 cup milk
1 cup oil
1 egg
1/8 cup sugar (for sprinkling)

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and lightly grease a standard cookie sheet.
2.  In a small saucepan,  boil water and add seeds.  Let the seeds cook for about 20 minutes.
3.  In a medium mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar and baking powder.  Zest the orange and add the zest to the dry mixture.
4.  In a tall glass or jar, combine the milk and oil.  Add the juice from the orange.  Stir so the liquid is mixed.
5.  Add the cooked anise seed to the dry mixture and mix well.  Then slowly add the wet mixture to the dry mixture and mix well.  (I typically end up kneading the dough)
*If the mixture is too wet or too dry, add a little more flower or mix equal parts of oil and milk and add.
6.  Then, take about 2 tbs of dough and roll into a snake.  Pick it up and twist the dough from the middle out.  Or you can twist the dough so that it makes a breast cancer awareness ribbon shape.  Or you can twist it into a traditional knot.  Place on cookie sheet
7.  Beat an egg and thinly brush on top of the cookies.  Then, with a spoon sprinkle sugar on top of the cookies.
8.  Bake for 10-12 minutes or until they are solid.
9.  Eat with milk and Enjoy!

I end up freezing most of the cookies just so I don't eat them all in one sitting. :)

Day Five a picture of somewhere you've been to

Mars...or the closest thing to it.  Goblin Valley!  Coolest place ever!  If you live within a 10 hour radius of this incredible place and haven't been, shame on you ;)

Day 4: a Habit you wished you didn't have

When I am about to perform on stage, I have this insane need to use the bathroom.  EVERYTIME.  It has led to some embarrassing experiences, one in particular would be my onstage question at State Jr. Miss.  Maybe one day it will go away.

Day 2: A good Memory

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Premiere: Part one
This was such a fun night!  We all dressed up and went to Jordan Common's for the midnight premiere.  Jesse was Harry Potter, I was the Golden Snitch, Kenn was Belatrix, Stacey was Trelawny, and there were many other great costumes.  I think a highlight was when Jess hoped on his firebolt and chased me around the theatre.  Or when we ran into Voldemort.  Or when Jesse/Harry drug Mathew/Edward up the stairs saying, "He told me to bring his body back."  Or when Ken got scared within the first 5 minutes and came and sat by me and Publish Postjess and had us squish our 3 bums into 2 theatre seats.  Poor Jess.  Both Ken and I are fairly jumpy and happen to scream frequently...

The Challenge

I was recently blog stalking my dear friend Megan (we bonded at State Jr. Miss almost exactly 2 years ago and she has been such a dear, long-distance, friend.  Love you girl!)  I saw that she did a 30 day blogging challenge, and I'm pretty excited to give it a go.  I will still try and get in DIY entries as well. :)

So here is Day 1:
Day 1 - a recent photo of you and 15 interesting facts about yourself

1.  I'm a student at BYU.  I'm in the  Family Studies program and almost done, which is weird.  I've fallen in love with my Visual Arts Minor and wish that I could have discovered it earlier so I could major in that.
2.  I have an obsession with DI.  Seriously, 90% of my clothes are from there.  Tacky? Maybe.  Cheap?  Absolutely. :)
3.  I went skiing for the first time in my life yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed myself.  According to Jesse, I was almost a natural.  Plus of the day: I only fell down 3 times.  Downer of the day:  the guy I rented skis from had to ask if I was a boy or girl...
4.  I love to sew and make my own clothes.  I love recycled clothing and find it thrilling.  Currently, I'm in a super hard patternmaking class.  Our practical final is next week, which will be a picture of a dress and we will have to create the entire pattern for it...yikes!!!
5.  I'm a vitta.  Yoga is a deep passion of mine and I think that the nutrition part of it is so interesting.  You can check it out at whatsmydosha.com. :)
6.  I strongly dislike weddings, but sell wedding dresses for work. I'm currently writing a book about my expereinces as a bridal consultant at Alysse's Bridal.  Basically, I crack myself up. :)
7.  I love country music, musicals, opera, oldies, and Jesse's music.
8.  A secret dream of mine is to purchase a castle in Europe and turn it into a bed and breakfast.
9.  I skipped 4th grade and so I was 17 at college...and 17 when I first met Jesse.
10.  I'm applying to the Jerusalem Center.
11.  I have the best family in the whole world!  My sister is at BYU and getting married in May to a wonderful guy named Kyle.  Sam, Owen, and Andy are the best brothers that I could have every asked for.  Each brother is so different and I love them in very different ways.
12.  I'm a mormon and I love what my religion teaches.  I believe in my Heavenly Father and his son, Jesus Christ.   I believe that Jesus atoned for my sins so that I can live forever with Him, my family, and my friends.  I love the lifestyle that comes with my religion and would be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have about being a Mormon. :)
13.  I love to sing.  I sung 2nd alto in high school, but gave it up for multiple reasons.  My range is fairly large, but super low.  (low b to a high a or so, depending on the day)  I love Karen Carpenter and would love to sing like her. :)
14.  I am dating the sweetest guy, Jesse Foster Thomas.  We've been together for exactly 13 months and I'm thrilled!
15.  I love to laugh, mainly at my own jokes.  I love playing games and telling funny jokes and stories, even though I'm probably the worst story teller in the whole world.  If I had a dollar for every time I've said, "Do you wanna hear a funny story?" followed by "Only if you keep it to 60 seconds or less," I'd be a rich cookie. :)
